Youth is undeniable the most formidable force and resource any Nation can aspire to have, however, the current economic crisis is having a particularly negative impact on the working, living, and educational needs of our youth in South Africa.
South African Youth Awareness Programme (SAYAP) is an initiative run by Eve-K Consultancy, which seeks to develop and deliver youth awareness programmes in South Africa. SAYAP’s programmes and projects endeavour to help young people, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain skills, work experience and abilities they need to make a successful transition into the labour market and ultimately gain sustainable employment.
Eve-K’s youth development programmes and projects including SAYAP seek to provide opportunities for youth in three different areas, namely:
- Skills Gap:to expand youth’s awareness of the shortages in labour in certain skilled trades sectors of employment.
- Labour force Integration of Rural Youth:to improve opportunities for youth living in smaller, rural communities where jobs and employment services are more difficult to find.
- Employment Opportunities: to facilitate immediate entrance into the world of work, through vocational work/training opportunities or apprenticeships where youth will learn specific trades and earn an income immediately or in the future.
- Further Learning and Training: to develop and identify further learning and training opportunities that will in turn lead to ability to get employment.
- Small Enterprise Development: to facilitate the participation of youth in enterprise development opportunities. This includes assisting youth to start their own companies, or join co-operatives and link them with the relevant organisations that will provide them with necessary support
